The Lady Lions defeated Elkhart 11-4 on Friday night and also picked-up a victory after a forfeit by Crockett on Tuesday night. The wins move Teague to 12-3 on the season and 3-2 in district play.
The Lions defeated the Crockett Bulldogs 7-0 and fell to the Elkhart Elks 7-0 this past week. Teague has an overall record of 1-11-3 and a district record of 1-2.
Teague’s Varsity Lions traveled to Crockett where they suffered a close loss to the Bulldogs, due to a weak performance at the freethrow line and a lazy play on defense. Both teams began the competition relatively relaxed on defense. Teague and Crockett established good footing in the first quarter. The Lions established a slight lead with 17 points against the Bulldogs due to good field execution. Crockett trailed not too far behind with 15 points in the quarter, 17-15. Crockett seemed to step up their game on defense, only allowing Teague 4 points in the quarter thanks to shots in the field by freshmen Jehmel Rice and Tylin Randle. Their step-up on offense added some fuel to their offensive fire. The Bulldogs added 13 points to the board, taking the lead from the Lions, 21-28. Down by 7 points, the Lions needed to perform better in the field if they wanted to make a comeback against the Bulldogs. The Lions did outscore the Bulldogs in the third quarter by two points, but they did not perform well enough on defense to take the lead from Crockett. The Bulldogs tallied 9 points to Teague’s 11 points, keeping a close game, 32-37. The Bulldogs were determined to keep the win home as they scored 15 points in the final quarter - their game high. Teague kept up with 13 points, but ultimately missed free throws, and weak transition stole the win from the Lions. Crockett celebrated a home-court victory against the Lions, 45-52. Nemier Herod - 14 points; Jehmel Rice - 11 points; Jake Callahan - 7 points; Wayland Allison - 5 points; Aiden Allen - 4 points; Tylin Randle and Xavier Harvey - 2 points each.
After traveling to Franklin, it proved to be a long Friday night for the Varsity Teague Lions as they were offensively shut down during the entire competition by the Franklin Lions.
