A record breaking 29 teams entered the 12th Annual Teague FFA Varmint Hunt Jan. 31 - Feb. 1. When all was said and done, Cothran Ag Services won the event with 1,165 points. Making up the team were Chance Sullivan, Cameron Cothran, Trevor Cooper, and James Curry. They also killed the heaviest coyote coming in at 41 pounds.
James Riley Morgan was born Sept. 5, 1940, in the Freestone County community of Rocky Branch (Creek), which is located between Kirvin and Wortham. He was the youngest son of nine children – three sons and six daughters – born to farmers James and Tennie Morgan. He attended a small country school in that community then went on to attend and graduate in 1959 from the segregated F. W. Wheeler High School in Wortham. He was a well-rounded student and gifted athlete who played a variety high school sports but it was basketball where he excelled.
The Teague ISD school board was honored on Tuesday evening, Jan. 21, as part of School Board Appreciation Month. Signs, decorated and signed by students, hung around the boardroom, thanking the board for their dedication.
The City of Teague Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, Jan. 21, for their monthly meeting. Throughout the meeting, the board approved placing several street signs in town due to safety concerns. All board members were present except for Bridget Gauntt.
