In a year bookended by the original COVID-19 on one end and the Omicron variant on the other, with Delta in the middle, Freestone County saw about 1,060 confirmed COVID-19 cases and lost about 45 residents in 2021.
Dec. 30-Jan 2
The year 2021 began with lots of hope … mainly hope that the COVID-19 pandemic was about over and life could go on as before. However, we endured more surges, the Delta variant and then the Omicron variant. Through it all, The Fairfield Recorder reported on more than just the pandemic. Following are some news highlights and “lowlights” from the first part of the year.
In Luke’s Gospel, the eleventh chapter, the Bible tells us that one day the disciples of Jesus came to Him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray.” Of course, the prayer He taught them, the one we call “The Lord’s Prayer”, is just a model of how we should pray for the Lord’s will to be done in our hearts and lives, and in the hearts and lives of our nation, because it teaches us to be completely dependant upon God above. In the sixth chapter of Matthew’s Gospel, where the other version of the prayer is found, Matthew records two whole chapters, chapters six and seven, where Jesus gives us guidelines for all our prayers. Jesus tells us that when we pray, we are not to do so in a “show and tell” manner like the hypocritical Pharisees used to do, but to go to our rooms where we can pray in secret, and “our Father who sees in secret will reward you”, and oftentimes publically.
