The Jay Alderman Memorial 42 Tournament was held at Teague First Baptist Church in late February. The tourney has been hosted each year in Jay’s memory for the last 12 years. An evening of brisket, dominoes fellowship and fun was guaranteed throughout, in which funds were raised for local students in the name of Alderman.
The Freestone County Sheriff’s Office arrested a subject Thursday evening, March 12. Lt. Willis and Deputy Darby conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 164 in Donie. A vehicle search was subsequently conducted and approximately 14 grams of methamphetamine was found inside the vehicle. Two subjects were placed under arrest for a first degree felony charge, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance PG 1 between four 4 grams and 200 grams.
Teague Elementary recently held its annual book fair in conjunction with Scholastic, earning $6,500 for the school for books sold. All funds raised benefit the school by returning to the elementary library, to purchase new books for students to check out According to organizer Amanda Brubaker, the year was successful not only as a fundraiser, but in the volunteers that supported the fair.
The Teague Economic Development Corporation met Tuesday, March 3, for a workshop with members of Teague City Council to discuss future plans for the Old City Hall building located in downtown Teague.
