Dew campus saved by quick thinking VFD

An alert Dew Volunteer fireman, who noticed something unusual, saved Dew School from a near-catastrophic fire Tuesday morning a little after 6 a.m.

Dew School Superintendent Darrell Evans says that Dew VFD Assistant Chief Monte Atchley was returning from another structure fire to the station house, located behind the school building, and observed that something didn’t look right.

“He called and asked about an exhaust fan coming out from behind the library,” Evans says. “I told him we don’t have one. Luckily, he saw the smoke.”

Dew, Teague, and Fairfield VFDs responded, Superintendent Evans says, and “got it taken care of in no time.”
