A true love story: Harrol and Ann Dickson, 67-years and counting

Seventy years ago in August 1950, two sixteen year olds met at Afton Grove Baptist Church, five miles east of Jacksonville, and started dating.

Harrol and Ann Dickson waited and tied the knot on January 17, 1954 when she was 19 years old and he was 20 years old at the home of Bro. Meadows in Jacksonville. Known to many in Teague as Nanny Ann and Pa, the couple recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

Harrol, 87 years old, and Ann, 86 years old, live each day to the fullest taking care of each other.

“I love her so much because she is always taking care of me,” Harrol said. “She never leaves me. She is always beside me.”

The couple lived in Jefferson and Gonzales before moving and settling down in Teague in 1959. Once moving to Teague, the couple joined Eighth Avenue Baptist Church where they have been faithful members. Nanny Ann served for 25 years in the nursery at Eighth Avenue.
