The sixth annual Teague Lion Academy commencement ceremony took place May 28, with graduates following social distancing guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local man and Army Sergeant Major James Ryan Sartor of Teague died during combat fighting last year. Sartor, 40, was killed by enemy small arms fire in the Faryab Province in Afghanistan, according to information released by the Pentagon. Sartor graduated from Teague High School in 1997 and joined the Army in 2001. The loss of Sartor echoed across the community from friends, family and all that he had contact with.
Members of the Teague High School Class of 2020 lined-up in front of THS in the afternoon of May 21 for Operation Senior Surprise. Each senior received a basket full of goodies and prizes that were donated by individuals, organizations, and businesses.
Several members of the public were present during a May 20 meeting of Freestone County Commissioners Court, speaking to commissioners about recent annual statements of appraised property values.
