In memoriam: James Ryan Sartor

Local man and Army Sergeant Major James Ryan Sartor of Teague died during combat fighting last year. Sartor, 40, was killed by enemy small arms fire in the Faryab Province in Afghanistan, according to information released by the Pentagon. Sartor graduated from Teague High School in 1997 and joined the Army in 2001. The loss of Sartor echoed across the community from friends, family and all that he had contact with.

Sartor was a football player and friend to many throughout the Teague community, marked by characteristic stoic manner. He was a quiet person, until he got around those that he knew well. Many noted his low tolerance for unscrupulous behavior and actions, including laziness or deliberate stupidity. Jared Synder of Teague was a huge influence on Sartor, in addition to classmate Clint Skinner.
