Commissioners hear concerns over values

Several members of the public were present during a May 20 meeting of Freestone County Commissioners Court, speaking to commissioners about recent annual statements of appraised property values.

The annual statements, given from the Freestone Central Appraisal District, saw many locals’ values rise. FCAD Chief Appraiser Bud Black noted that rising values were a result of an upward trend in the market, with substantial increases on commercial and residential properties.

A resolution passed by commissioners earlier in the year, aimed at asking Governor Greg Abbott to provide tax relief to property owners, went unfulfilled by Abbott’s office, further adding to the strain
