After a nearly scoreless first half, the Teague Lions saw a last-ditch comeback fall from their grasp in a slippery 29-14 road loss to New Waverly Friday night. Under gloomy skies and spotty rain showers, New Waverly’s real grass field quickly turned to sludge, setting a dramatic stage to start the game. Teague then dominated in a 25-13 set for its first home win under new head coach Melissa Padgett. The smooth victory comes after a 3-0 loss to China Spring (25-14, 25-19, 25-21) on Friday, Aug. 26. The Lions also fell 3-2 in a tightly contested match to Madisonville that Tuesday. After two dropped sets, Teague came back for a 26-24 third set victory and won the fourth set 25-21 before falling 15-11 in a final, shorter set. The Lady Lions found their first win in a sweep against Centerville on Tuesday, Aug, 16. To prep for district play, Teague has also participated in three area tournaments, winning the consolation prize in the gold bracket at the Kerens Tournament on Aug. 25-27. The Lady Lions played Malakoff in a Tuesday They kick off district play against rival team Fairfield on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

It all started 10 years ago for first year coach Melissa Padgett and it has since become a tradition every year.
