I’m going with you

This morning I heard an illustration by Dr. David Jeremiah, Pastor, author, evangelist, and teacher who has a weekly church service every Sunday and who is often asked to attend speaking engagements all over the country. He told the story of President Lincoln long before he ever served as president, who on an occasion decided to attend a slave auction that was taking place near where he lived. As he saw what was happening, he was appalled at the evil treatment of the slaves that was taking place. His heart went out to this one young woman as she was on the auction block and bidding was going on between several slave owners. He could see the intense hatred that was in her eyes towards the man who was auctioning off her life to the highest bidder, so he decided to enter into the bidding process. As one bidder shouted out his price, Lincoln shouted out a higher price. When the other bidder went higher, he went higher still. Finally he was awarded the young woman as his slave.
