The Teague Volunteer Fire Department makes an arch and hangs an American flag on Sunday afternoon, March 27, in downtown Teague to honor Freestone County Precinct 2 Commissioner Craig Oakes. Hundreds of family members, friends and community members attended the funeral services for Oakes at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Teague. Oakes would make one last trip through Teague underneath the arch as burial was held at Oakes Cemetery. Oakes served the citizens of Precinct 2 for 19 years and three months. His obituary is published on Page 3. Photo by Mitchell Pate/Teague Chronicle
The City of Teague is in the process of considering whether to refurbish its storm siren alert system or to purchase a new one. When powerful thunderstorms rolled through Freestone County on Monday night, March 21, the device seemingly failed to function.
It was the last event to be held in The Depot X since the building has been sold, and it will be a night that the Freestone County 4-H will not forget. Thousands of dollars were raised to help support the Freestone County youth who participate in 4-H.
While there are many students who really like to lay back and relax or go places during spring break, there are others who prefer to continue learning new things. The Teague Library provided learning opportunities each day of the recent spring break.
