Lions looking for first 2020 victory

Looking for the team’s first victory of the 2020 campaign, the Teague Lions will be back in action Friday night at 7:30 p.m., going on the road to face the Madisonville Mustangs (1-1).

The Mustangs finished the 2019 season with a record of 2-8 (0-6 district), with the team’s lone 2019 victories coming against Woodville and Navasota in non-district play.

In last year’s campaign, the Mustangs relied on a three-headed running back rotation, with Tyrese Brown (670 yards, 12 rushing TDs), Roderick Holiday (526 yards, seven rushing TDs) and Armando Lee “Chopp” Juarez (325 yards, four rushing TDs from the quarterback position). Juarez returns for his senior season as the Mustangs’ signal-caller, an efficient passer who completed 53 of his 96 passes in 2019, throwing for 690 yards and six touchdowns to just one interception.
