Lions fall to New Waverly

Last week’s trip to New Waverly by the Teague Lions boys’ varsity basketball team led to mixed results, with the team falling short at the final buzzer but continuing to meld their freshman players with more experienced teammates.

The varsity team played the first quarter well, but missed a few opportunities on layups, ending the quarter down 7-15. Beginning the second quarter, the Lions executed well offensively, but struggled defensively, failing to get rebounds, and had some turnovers that led the New Waverly Bulldogs to score.

The Bulldogs scored 22 points in the second quarter, the Lions closely followed, putting up 20 points. New Waverly led into the second half with a 10 point lead of 27-37.
