William (Billy) McSpadden

Funeral services for William (Billy) McSpadden were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 5, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Scott Matthews officiated and interment followed the services at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. Visitation was held on Saturday at 10 a.m. prior to the service. He was born in Teague on Nov. 13, 1921, to W. H., Sr. and Eunice Ogilvie McSpadden and passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Parkview Hospital in Mexia. McSpadden graduated from Teague High School with the class of 1939. He served in World War II from December 1941 until October 1945 and went overseas to England, North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He participated in an invasion of North Africa in November 1942. McSpadden retired from the United States Postal Service in 1976. He was a member of the American Legion Post 238 of Teague, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5872 of Fairfield, Texas & National Rural Letter Carriers Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees. McSpadden was a lifelong Presbyterian, he joined the First Presbyterian Church in 1933 where he was a deacon and elder for many years. McSpadden is survived by two daughters, Karen Whitaker and husband Wayne and Jean Shields and husband Carl; six grandchildren, Jennifer Whitaker Smith, Paige Tucker Day, Dayna Whitaker Drake, Meredith Tucker, Brandon Whitaker, Ashley Tucker Coreas; fourteen great-grandchildren, Shelby Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Dylan Smith, Casey Samuels, Cady Drake, Benjamin Whitaker, Luke Whitaker, Skylar Day, Landon Day, Brody Day, Camden Evans, Julieta Coreas, Sofia Coreas, and Nico Coreas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty- seven years, Marie Hartley McSpadden; Parents W.H. Sr., and Eunice Mc- Spadden; three brothers, J. C. McSpadden, Bernard McSpadden, Garland Ray McSpadden. The family requests memorials be made to the B.R.I. Railroad Museum, P.O. Box 604, Teague, Texas 75860.
