Von Staggs

Funeral services for Von Staggs, 63, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3 at First Baptist Church in Teague. Steve Lackey, Joe Beil Reid and Scott Matthews will officiate.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family present at Bowers Funeral Home.

Mrs. Staggs met her Heavenly Father while waiting for work to start on Wednesday morning, Feb. 23, 2022.

She was born in Birmingham, Ala., on Dec. 10, 1958. She grew up in Florida, living in Boynton Beach, Kissimmee and St. Cloud. Von moved to Fairfield in 1990, and later lived in Dew and Freestone before settling in Teague. Von met Michael Staggs on Friday, Nov. 13, 1986, and the couple married on July 22, 2006. Mrs. Staggs was well known for working in the community in various businesses. She worked for Bill’s Dollar Store in Fairfield, McDonalds for several years as shift manager, Cole’s Barn Stop in Fairfield and helped open Cole’s Barn Stop in Teague (now Dapps), before going to work for Brookshire Brothers in Teague for more than 24 years and was currently the Non-foods manager. Von enjoyed cooking, fishing, getting her nails done, spending time with her daughters and caring for her fur babies. Mrs. Staggs was a member of the Cedar Stone Church in Teague. She loved her church family and looked forward to seeing everyone on Sunday mornings.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Staggs; two daughters, Kat Gordon and husband Bill and Dottie Martin and husband Travis, all of Teague; two grandchildren, Megan Priest and husband Keelon and Brandon Martin; “special son,” Preston Cordova; “special granddaughter,” Devon Taylor; one sister, Jean Harris of Waycross, Ga.; three nieces, Merlene Crosby, Carrie Ann Cerniglia and Dawn Fratus; and other relatives and many friends,

Mrs. Staggs was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Frances Epps; two brothers, Bill Epps and David Epps; and one sister, Romecia Epps.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Freestone Cancer Group, P. O. Box 1522, Fairfield, TX 75840.
