Teddy (Ted) Douglas Mayo

ayo Teddy (Ted) Douglas Mayo was born on the Ellen Austin place just outside of Kerens on Nov. 11, 1940. It was a cold day and he arrived famished, beginning his lifelong appreciation of a timely and satisfying meal. He was the third of five children born to Hardy P. and Hazel Marie Mayo.

Ted grew up in Kerens where he excelled at sports, academics and having fun. He graduated from Kerens High School in 1959 as the valedictorian. He then attended Texas A&M, where he was in Squadron 11 of the Corps of Cadets, and majored in Civil Engineering. He remained committed to the values and traditions of his alma mater, always displaying honesty and integrity. On Aug. 18,1962 his life changed forever. He met Patricia Carroll Rogers of Palacios on a blind date. They married on Jan. 26, 1963, and had a great love story that lasted nearly 60 years on earth and will continue forever in Heaven. They had three children and six grandchildren, and built their life around family, faith and personal responsibility. At the age of 27, Ted gave his life to Jesus Christ. He lived his faith quietly, but it was extremely important to him. He rooted for the underdog and helped many others. almost always behind the scenes. In his work and in his home, Ted was a person of his word. Texas Utilities brought him and his family to Fairfield in 1974 and though he would move away and back a few times, he considered Fairfield home. Ted went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Mayo; his best friend and brother-inlaw, Virgil Miller; and other extended family members.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Mayo; his children, Teddy Mayo and wife Terri, Jeanie Cochrane and husband Bob, Carol Duarte and husband Virgilio; his grandchildren, Mia Mayo, Meagan Mayo, Alex Szilagyi, Virgilio (Alex) Duarte, Daniel Duarte and Lara Duarte; his sisters, Suzanne Ebersold and husband Cecil, Krystle Thorn and husband David, Becky Coker and husband Randy; his sisters- in-law, Kathryn Miller, Rita Naumann and husband Barry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
