Shirley Wordes

Funeral services for Shirley Wordes were held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Bro. Marcus Sheffield officiated. Interment followed the services at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Ms. Wordes passed away on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, in Mexia.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1938, in Renville, Minnesota, and moved to Iowa with her family in 1944. Shirley graduated from Shell Rock High School and later moved to Texas in 1961 to live with her uncle and aunt, Pete and Zell Hinders.

She attended Cosmetology School in Victoria and worked as a hairdresser in Teague beginning in 1963 for Laura Tacker. After 13 years, Shirley opened her own Beauty Shop and operated it until her retirement. She was a hairdresser for 48 years.

She is survived by one sister, Rosezell Adelmund; one brother, Dean Wordes; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; her sisterin- law, Charlene Whiteside; other relatives and friends including a special friend, Beth Beene.

Ms. Wordes was preceded in death by her parents, Jennings and Beulah Wordes; one brother, Dennis Wordes; her uncle and aunt, Pete and Zell Hinders; and her brother-in-law, Richard Adelmund.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Lord’s Community Storehouse, P.O. Box 384, Teague, TX 75860.
