SARAH ANN POTEET

Sarah Ann Poteet, 79, of Gainesville, away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, in McKinney. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Antioch Baptist Cemetery near Fairfield with Brother Carl Clark, pastor of Corinth Baptist Church of Dew, officiating.

Sarah was born March 28, 1942, in Freestone County to parents John and Sarah Burton Scruggs. She was a longtime resident of Fairfield and a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Dew. She was known for her love of sewing, working puzzles, baking and cooking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bennie Joe Childress Jr.; a grandson, David Brandon Smith; three brothers, Billy Newman Scruggs, Carter Scruggs and Clarence Scruggs; four sisters, Lizzie Crouch, Mary Lee Landry, Jewel Morris and Ellen Gunter.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Tony Tutt of Gainesville; seven children, Elizabeth Phillips of Whitesboro; Brenda Schmid of Gainesville; Alvin Childress and wife Stacy of Collinsville; Emma Childress of Oklahoma City, OK; Brian Childress and wife Tammy of Whitesboro; Sheri Payne and husband Willie of Bridgeport; Stacy Childress of Gainesville; two sisters, Grace Pannell of Ft. Collins, CO; Fay Ward of Fairfield; one brother, Clinton Scruggs of Teague; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
