Roy Jack Burleson
Funeral services for Roy Jack Burleson, 91, will be held on Wednesday, July 6, at 3 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Brother Roy Prather will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Tuesday with the family present from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Burleson passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at his residence in Mexia.
He was born in De Leon on Dec. 9, 1930, but grew up in Desdemona (Hog Town) and graduated from Desdemona High School. Mr. Burleson married Bonnie King on Aug. 4, 1949, and shared more than 64 years of marriage together before being separated by her death on Dec. 28, 2013. He worked for Lonestar Oil Co and spent his entire career in the oil field, starting as a pumper and working his way up to several positions. Mr. Burleson was an avid hunter and loved to work his hounds with treeing game. He also enjoyed fishing and any outdoorsman activities. Mr. Burleson was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Teague.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Thompson and husband Bill of Teague, and Connie Phillips and husband Mike of Mexia; one son, Charlie Burleson and wife Gayle of Teague; seven grandchildren, Cliff Phillips and wife Jenny, Kent Phillips and wife Jennifer, Misty Langley and husband David, Tim Parolini and wife April, Kenneth Thompson and wife Cristan, John Burleson and wife Jordan, and Katie Burleson and Taylor Kerzee; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Burleson and wife Karen of Desdemona; one sister, Georgia Ann Iley of De Leon; one sister-in-law, Joyce Randolph of Dublin; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Mr. Burleson was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie King Burleson; his parents, Lee Roy and Ima Lee Burleson; and two brothers-in-law, Howard Iley and Alfred Randolph.
