Roger D. Wattles
Private Memorial services for Roger D. Wattles will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 1 at the Mitch Atchley Family Life Center at Corinth Baptist Church in Dew. Bro. Carl Clark will officiate. Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Dew Volunteer Fire Department. Wattles passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018, at his residence in Teague. He was born in Turlock, Calif. on March 24, 1957, to Robert Sr., and Margaret Wattles. He moved around California frequently with his family while growing up, but spent most of his time in the central valley. He was a star athlete for his high school. After high school graduation, he joined the U. S. Navy. Wattles had a 21 year career with the Navy. He was a 1st Class Petty Officer, Master Training Specialist, Fire Fighter, Fire Fighting Instructor, and Fire Marshall. He married Betty De Graaf on April 23, 1982, and shared over thirty-six years of marriage together. Roger had tours of duty during the Gulf War; Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Desert Calm. He spent time in Kuwait, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Guam, Philippines, Columbia, Portland, Ore., Charleston, S.C., Albuquerque, N.M., California, and other locations during his naval service. Roger was attached to the Naval Vessels; USS Kittyhawk, USS Enterprise, and the USS Ogden. He is survived by his wife, Betty Wattles of Teague; two sons, Jeremy C. Wattles of California, and Derek W. Wattles of Dallas; one daughter, Audry Wattles of Fairfield; two brothers, Robert Wattles, Jr. and wife Debbie, and Tom Wattles and wife Dawn; one sister, Patricia Smith all of California; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Wattles was preceded in death by one son, Craig Lyman Wattles; his parents, Robert Sr., and Margaret Wattles; and one sister, Nova Jean Davis.
