Robert “Red” Smith

On Feb. 5, 2024, at age 66, Red unexpectedly passed away at his home place in Cotton Gin. Although he had a Mexia address, he was a Teague boy.

He graduated from Teague High School and in his youth attended the Church of Christ. He was a Christian.

After High School, he went to San Antonio and attended a Job Corps program. Throughout his life he did different jobs for others.

He had a big heart and enjoyed helping others when possible, and loved animals. He was patriotic and proud to be a Texan.

The townspeople would know it was him with his signature Texas Flag waving above his truck as he drove down main street. He also admired the Texas Rangers.

Red was preceded in death by his Father, Robert, (Bob) Smith, and mother, Charlotte (Smith) Brown.

Although he didn’t have more family, he considered some others family of the Heart. Since he spent nearly 40 years in Cotton Gin, he considered many in the area, family.

An informal graveside gathering is planned for March 2, at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague, weather permitting. It is scheduled for 4 p.m. Those who knew Red can speak and share their good memories.
