Rachel Steen

Funeral services for Rachel Steen, 89, took place Sunday, July 14 at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Roy Prather officiated. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

A visitation was Saturday, July 13, with the family present, at the funeral home.

Ms. Steen passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Teague Nursing & Rehab.

Rachel was born in Teague Sept. 22, 1929 to parents James Melvin and Hattie Vela Jones Fogleman. She and her twin brother, Buddy, were the youngest of ten children. She married Billy Steen Jan. 2, 1951. Ms. Steen worked for many years at both, Brown’s Grocery and Hilltop Grocery. After her husband’s death in 1981, she began working for the Mexia State Supported Living Center as a switchboard operator until 1993 when she retired. Upon her retirement, she continued to be very active in the community. She worked for Bowers Funeral Home as a receptionist, was an active member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church and had many friends. She loved her family and attended as many of her children’s and grandchildren’s events as possible. Ms. Steen enjoyed travelling and went on many family trips with her children, brothers and sisters.

Ms. Steen is survived by one daughter, Billie Ann Steen Conger and husband David; one son, Richard Steen and wife Leigh Ann; three grandchildren, Jennifer Conger Peoples and husband Andy, Will Steen and wife Alyssa, and Kyle Steen and wife Ashley; five great-grandchildren, Landon Peoples, Madilyn Steen, Mabry Steen, Michael Steen, Aubrey Steen and Taylor Miller; two siblings, Doris Martin and Rayford Fogleman; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Debbie Cockerham.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Arthur (Billy) Steen; four sisters, Izetta Heichlebech, Stella Fogleman, Jestina Swint and Dorothy Hardison; twin brother, Richard (Buddy) Fogleman and two brothers, Travis Fogleman and Monroe Fogleman.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, 201 S. 8th , Teague, TX 75860 or to Reliant at Home (formerly Virginia’s Hospice) at 309 Main St., Teague, TX 75860.
