Odie Faye Housewright

Odie Faye Housewright, 101, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Fairfield. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Skinner officiating. Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Housewright, Greg Housewright, Brent Andrews, Jeremy Harris, Marcus Housewright and Reagan Hopkins.

Mrs. Housewright was born May 30, 1918 in Mountain View, Arkansas to parents Leonidas Morris Gayler and Bertha Mae Pendergrass Gayler. She came to Texas at age 2 and lived here the rest of her life. She married Arthur Ray Housewright, a minister, on January 8, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1985. Being born into a musical family and as a minister’s wife she sang and played piano in all the churches she was connected with. She served for a time as the secretary for the Baptist Progress, a publication for BMA churches. She served for 14 years on the Freestone County Fair Home Economics Committee. At the young age of 89 she retired from Freestone County Senior Services. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield. In addition to her parents and husband a daughter, Linda Carol Housewright; three brothers, two sisters and a great-grandson, Joshua Harris, preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Jerry Lynn Housewright (Zelda) of Euless; David Ray Housewright (Donna) of Fairfield; a sister, Bonnie Seabourne of Eustace; five grandchildren, Jerry Lynn Housewright, Jr.; John Housewright; Debra Andrews (Brent); Michael Housewright (Juliet); Greg Housewright (Samar); five great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren and a very special caregiver, Hazel Bealer.
