Nathan Utsey, Sr.

Funeral services for Nathan Utsey, Sr., 90, took place Saturday, July 14, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Ray Still officiated. Interment followed the services at Dew Cemetery. Visitation took place Friday, July 13, with the family present, at the funeral home. Utsey passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Teague Nursing Home. Nathan was born Jan. 2, 1928 in Teague to James and Lou Ella Utsey. He was married to Laverne Utsey for about 35 years and then married to Janet Utsey for over 35 years. Nathan was a weatherman for the U.S. Air Force in his early years. He owned and operated Utsey Construction Co. for about 40 years. Mr. Utsey loved his horses and cattle, growing vegetables. He loved sports especially the Dallas Cowboys. Nathan was a Deacon at Riverview Baptist Church in Houston and also a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Teague. He is survived by his three children, Mary Lynn Galloway and husband Marvin of Austin, Calvin Utsey, Jr. and wife Brenda of Dayton, Jo Ann Miller of Humble, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. His parents, James and Lou Ella Utsey; his first wife, Laverne Utsey; his second wife, Janet Utsey; two sisters; and five brothers preceded Mr. Utsey in death. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Eighth Avenue Baptist Church Youth Fund, 201 S. 8th Ave., Teague, Texas 75860.
