Funeral services for Myrtle Walthall, 99, will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. Dr. Richard Heyduck will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Woodland Cemetery near Kirvin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday with the family present from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Myrtle Evelyn McAdams Walthall passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017, in Fairfield. She was born in the Mt. Zion Community of Freestone County on November 9, 1917, to Alvin and Myrtis McAdams. Myrtle was one of thirteen children in her family and the oldest daughter. As the oldest girl, she helped her mother with the raising of her younger siblings including cutting hair, cooking, sewing, and other duties. She attended the Mt. Zion school and Fairfield High School. Myrtle witnessed world of many changes during her lifetime. She drove a wagon pulled by mules, rode in a model T automobile, picked cotton, and saw countless changes in communications and technology. Myrtle married Earl (Smokey) Walthall on November 22, 1945, and shared over twenty-nine years of marriage together until being separated by his death, when he was only fifty-five. Myrtle enjoyed being a career woman and worked several jobs in Fairfield. She hung wallpaper for her father, worked for Ivy’s Dry Good Store, Peyton Brothers, The Daisy Shop, Sewing Factory, and as a babysitter in the nursery at First Methodist Church. Myrtle enjoyed visiting with friends and attending social and community events. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Fairfield and served as an officer and worked in the kitchen for many years on Bingo nights. She was a special MeMa to her grandchildren and loved to cook and sew things for them as well serve as babysitter as they grew up. Myrtle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. She is survived by three children, Tim Walthall & wife Linda Faye of Teague, Terry Walthall & wife Esther of Fairfield, and Myra Inderman & husband Stanley of Teague; six grandchildren, Mykle Ann Wright, Jason Walthall, Adam Walthall, Scott Brooks, Dustin Inderman, and Lana Inderman; eight greatgranddaughters, Madeline Wright, Maggie Wright, Jessi Wright Winsor, Abigail Walthall, Alexi Walthall, Jayci Walthall, Avery Brooks, and Chloe Brooks; two, great-great-grandchildren, Jason Winsor, and Elizabeth (Ella) Winsor; one sister, Mary Bonner of Teague; one sister-in-law, Arlean McAdams of Fairfield; one brother-in-law, Julian Walthall of Kirvin; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends of the family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl (Smokey) Walthall; her parents, Alvin & Myrtis McAdams, six brothers, Ellis McAdams, Marshall McAdams, Milton McAdams, Richard McAdams, Jack McAdams, and Bobby McAdams; and four sisters, Callie Brown, Verdie Cannon, Ruby Bess Willard, and Dot Orand.
