MERLE LEE JENSEN

Merle Lee Jensen, 79, passed away peacefully Dec. 19, 2021, at her home in Teague.

Merle was born June 15, 1942, in Houston and later moved to Fort Worth where she grew up and attended Arlington Heights High School. On April 12, 1959, Merle married Wilson Ruppert “Johnny” Jensen. While Johnny was in the Navy, Merle made her home in Fort Worth. Once out of the Navy, Johnny’s job afforded the family to live and travel the world. They enjoyed living in Cairo, Cabinda, Angola; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; London and Singapore. Beginning in 1970, she and her family made their home in Teague and as they traveled overseas for work, they would always return home.

Once settled in Teague, Merle was initiated as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in October 1981 and where she served as Worthy Matron during 1986-1987 and 1993- 1994. She enjoyed gardening, watching old western movies, was an Elvis fan, and an accomplished seamstress. She worked many jobs over the years, some alongside her husband, but was best known for working at Palace Drug in Teague. Merle was known for her sweet temperament and loved her family dearly. Her extended family will always cherish the years of having Thanksgiving at their home in Teague.

She is survived by her husband, Wilson Ruppert Jensen, of their home in Teague; son, Clay Jensen of Grapevine; daughter Melissa (Jensen) Merka and husband Russell Merka of Austin; three grandchildren, Mallory (Jensen) Johnson, Mitchell Merka, and Pete Merka; three great-grandchildren, Jack Johnson, Maya Johnson, and Aidan Johnson; brother, Roy Arthur Menge, Jr.; and sister, Janice Marie (Menge) Angus.

She is preceded in death by her father, Roy Arthur Menge; mother, Gertrude Isabell (Jones) Menge; two brothers, Harry Lloyd Menge and William Douglas Menge; sister, Glenda Faye (Menge) Keith; and son, Richard Wayne Jensen.

In lieu of sending flowers, donations may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star, Teague/Buffalo.
