MERLE J. COBBS

Funeral services for Merle J. Cobbs will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Freestone.

Ms. Cobbs passed away Monday, February 24, at Providence Hospice in Waco.

Merle J. Cobbs was one of nine children, born on December 13, 1929 in Pittsburgh County, Oklahoma to parents Roy & Rosie Nell Skaggs. After she moved to Texas, she married Robert Cobbs on February 22, 1948. They made their home in Houston until they retired to Freestone in 1979. She later moved to Teague in 2012. Ms. Cobbs was a dedicated homemaker, mother and grandmother to her family. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Cobbs of Teague, and Barbara Cobbs of Groesbeck; four grandchildren, Dewanye Casteel & wife Amber of Youngsville, La., Hope Casteel Brewer and husband Ronnie of Fairfield, Robert Casteel and wife Jennifer of Spring, and T. J. Taylor and Corey Powell of San Angelo; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Snyder of Sand Springs, OK, and Alice Ratliff of Hartshorne, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ms. Cobbs was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cobbs; one daughter, Charlene Figgins; and six siblings.
