MARY BELL BARKER

Graveside services for Mary Bell Barker, 96, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Driver Cemetery. Brother Scott Matthews will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Mrs. Barker passed away Friday, Feb. 11, at her residence in Teague.

Mary Bell Finley was born on July 26, 1925, in Freestone County. She was the 10th child born to Charlie Lee and Elizabeth Easley Finley. Mary Bell grew up in Teague and after graduating from Teague High School, she moved to Houston to work for Dow Chemical. During her working career, she also worked for Red Top Dollar, Beach, Bait & Tackle, Big Top Convenience Store, G&G Drive Inn, and Alvin’s Convenience Store, several of those stores as manager. She eventually returned to Teague and married Lonnie Barker on Oct. 7, 1988, and shared more than years of marriage together until his death Dec. 17, 2003. Mrs. Barker was a Baptist by faith.

She is survived by one son, Gene Smith of Teague; her stepdaughter, Athenna Fage of Louisiana; one step-daughter-in-law, Donna Barker of Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren, Robert Carter, Amber Clark, Angela Kaseman, Caleb Robert Barker, Jennie Barker, Luke Barker, John Fage Jr., Marcielle Fage Belden, Michelle Fage Viator and Crissi Hansel; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Barker; one son, David Smith; one stepson, Ben Barker; five brothers; and six sisters.
