MARGARET INEZ BURNETT

Margaret lnez Burnett, 93, of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020 in Fairfield. A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Fairfield Cemetery. A memorial service is planned and will be announced at a later date.

lnez was born August 11, 1926 in Waco Texas to parents John Taylor Williams, Sr. and Minnie Lea Grant. Inez graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1943 and received her Bachelor’s degree in physical education from Hardin College in 1949 along with a teaching certificate in elementary education.

On June 18, 1949, lnez married James August Burnett, Jr. She taught kindergarten and first grade for 13 years then went on to work at Bracewell Library in Houston for eight years. ln 1976, lnez completed her Master’s in Library Science. Two years later, she became the librarian at Fairfield High School. lnez retired in 2003 after 25 years of service.

ln addition, to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James August Burnett, Jr.; her sister Martha Jim Williams; her sister & brother-in-law Dorothy and Wayne Parton; her sister and brother-in-law Bettye and Don Stout; and her brother and sister-in-law John and Ernie Williams.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Mike Burnett and wife Sam of Port O’Connor Texas; Gail DiGeronimo of Knoxville TN; Sue and Tom Hoke of Fairfield; Pat Bumett of Fairfield; grandchildren: Christopher Stadler and wife Kristi; Angela Laham and husband Ailee; James Hoke; Molly Fleming and husband Jonathan; great-grandchildren Jax and Jett Stadler; Maya and Michael Laham; Alice Hoke; Clayton and Wyatt Fleming; and a loving church family at First Baptist Church of Fairfield.

lnez’s love for the Lord showed in her service to Him, to her family, to her friends and to others. Outdoors was where she preferred to be. She looked forward to fishing in Port O’Connor and caught the biggest fish every time! lnez wore many hats over her lifetime as daughter, mother, wife, teacher, friend and more. Now she is home. God is wrapping her in His love and telling her “well done my good and faithful servant.”
