LOUIS JOHN SIMPSON

Louis John Simpson, 82, of Dew, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Ward Prairie Baptist Church with Pastor David Bristow and Mr. David McAdams officiating. Interment followed at Dew Cemetery.

Louis was born Sept. 12, 1938, in Pecos to parents James Preston and Joy Alderson Simpson. At 18 he joined the U.S. Army and served from October 1958 to February 1962. After the military he married Glenda Joy Clary on Sept. 9, 1962, in Dew. In 1965 he graduated as a lay minister from Jacksonville Baptist College and became an ordained minister in 1967.

Louis and Glenda moved to Dew in 1972. He pastoredWard Prairie Baptist Church in Fairfield from 1973 to 1983 and from 2001 to 2018 and during his life held many other jobs. He enjoyed going to his grandkids’ sporting events, traveling, gospel singing, revivals and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters, one nephew and one niece.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Glenda of Dew; two sons, Eric Simpson and wife Sandra of Dew, and Joseph Simpson and wife Sherry of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Evan Simpson and wife Sarah of Mexia, Jeremiah Simpson of Fate, Riley Simpson of Fairfield, and Preston Simpson and wife Jera of Ft. Lewis, Wash.; two great-grandchildren, Ava Simpson of Mexia and Willow Simpson of Ft. Lewis; one sister, Glenda Jean McKinney of Seguin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
