Lela Fay Ratley

Memorial services for Lela Fay Ratley, 90, will be held on Thursday, Sept 7, 2017, at 2pm at the Chapel at Teague Nursing Home. Her ashes will be laid to rest in Rehobeth Cemetery in Carthage with a graveside service on September 16, 2017, at 2:00pm. Mrs. Ratley passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017, at the Teague Nursing Home. Lela Fay was born on April 2, 1927, in Dialville, Texas, in Cherokee County. She met and married Joseph Sidney Ratley at the age of fifteen and they spent several years in Marshall and other communities in the east Texas area before moving to Carthage where she lived for most of her life. She was a dedicated homemaker until her husband passed away in July of 1980, and she went to work for the nursing home in Carthage. She also sat with elderly who needed assistance in their homes. Mrs. Ratley was an active member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church and spent many hours with the ladies ministries and projects. She moved to Donie with her sister, Rosiland, in 2005, and had been a resident of the Teague Nursing Home for the past few years. She is survived by two sons, Joe Ratley & wife Judy of White Oak, and Mike Ratley & wife Frances of Carthage; one daughter, Gayle Morgan & husband Tuk of Donie; eight grandchildren, Jeff Ratley, Jason Ratley & wife Stephanie, Chuck Ratley & wife Penni, Jamie Ratley & wife Valrie, Robin Ratley, Mathew Morgan, Joshua Morgan & wife April, and Jason (Alex) Morgan & wife Jessica; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends. Mrs. Ratley was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Ratley; two sisters, Rosiland Knox and Pat Ratley; and one special nephew, Dee Dee Ratley.
