Larry W. Johnson passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Providence Healthcare in Waco. Memorial services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Teague. Dr. Stephen Diaz officiated. Visitation with the family was held on Friday, Jan. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Johnson was born in his grandparent’s home near Newby in Leon County on Aug. 25, 1942. He grew up in Pasadena and graduated from South Houston High School, Class of 1961. He attended Texas A&M, Southwest Texas University and graduated with his bachelors degree from Sam Houston State University. Larry taught and coached in Pasadena, Snook, Normangee and Teague Independent School Districts for about 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, raising horses, raising cattle and numerous other animals. “He had his own zoo.” Johnson was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Teague. He loved his home in Teague, its where he wanted to be. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Johnson of Teague; two sons, Randy Johnson and wife Suzanne of Cedar Park, Troy Johnson and wife Kristi of Bullard; four grandchildren, Jordan Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Emily Johnson, Jake Johnson; two sisters, Sandra Malloch and husband J. David of South Lake, and Carrol O’Brien of Montgomery; one brother, Greg Johnson and wife Carin of Mena, Ark.; three stepchildren, Karen Seymour, David W. Duncan and James E. Duncan; six step-grandchildren, Megan Heil, Mary Kate Penn, Emily C. Seymour, Travis C. Seymour, Michael D. Seymour, Naomi C. Seymour; one great-grandchild, Amelia Rose Penn. Johnson was preceded in death by his son, Tracy Johnson; and one step-grandson, Thomas Seymour.
