Josie Allen Price was born June 16, 1926, to Frank and Esther Martin in Freestone-Leon County. She passed away at her home in Dew, on Oct. 13, 2022, at the age of 96.

In 1947, when Josie was 21, she married Leonard Allen. They were married for 34 years and had eight children together.

Josie worked many odd jobs throughout her married life including picking cotton, mowing yards, picking up pecans, and maintaining the cemetery. She eventually started a career at the local nursing home doing laundry.

She worked at McGee Nursing Home, Teague Nursing and Rehab, Buffalo Nursing Home, and Fairview Manor in Fairfield. Josie was an avid quilter who quilted by hand on a wooden frame that hung from the ceiling in her home. She made quilts for all of her grandchildren and many of her great-grandchildren. She loved going to garage sales, dancing, playing bingo, going to “the boats,” and visiting with her children and grandchildren. She and her sister Opal loved going to and working the flea markets or just visiting with each other. You could always hear them laughing and giggling when they were together. Most of all she just loved to

go. She was always ready for an adventure.

She had 13 years of fun and adventure with her second husband, Miles Price. She would point out places that she and Miles had been together.

Josie had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they were the light of her life. Her grands remember her as being a sassy grandma that loved picking on them.

She always wanted to hear what was going on in their lives and worried for each and every one of them.

Josie is survived by her children, Jerry Allen and wife Linda, Clyde Allen and wife Cynthia, Robert Allen and wife Debbie of Dew, Rita Daniel and husband Mike of Roaonke, and Michael Allen and wife Joanna of Ft. Worth; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Opal Barnett; sister-inlaw, Peggy Martin; son-in-law, David Willis; daughter-in-law, Tomi Allen; numerous nieces and nephews; and step-children from the Price family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard Allen and Miles Price; her children Donald Allen and wife Susan, Betty Willis, and Harold Allen; grandson, Ricky Allen; and brothers, Doris Martin, Leroy Martin, Bill Martin, and Frank Martin.
