John “Red” Nichols
Graveside services for John “Red” Nichols, 80, took place Wednesday, March 27 at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. Bro. Roy Prather officiated.
Visitation was held prior to the service at Bowers Funeral Home.
Mr. Nichols passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Teague Nursing Home.
He was born in Teague November 12, 1938, attended Teague schools and was a lifelong resident of Teague. He married Edna Thomas on November 4, 1958 and shared over fifty-six years of marriage together before being separated by her death on July 16, 2015. Mr. Nichols worked as a pipeliner and later as a crane operator and traveled all over the country with his work. He was very active in city government and local politics in Teague for many years. Mr. Nichols loved animals and raised countless puppies in his lifetime. He was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Sonia Evans & husband Dennis of Abilene and Mary Sue Nichols of Houston; four sons, John Nichols, Jr. of Teague, and Terry Nichols and wife Brandi of Teague, Gary Nichols of Streetman, and Lance Nichols and wife Jackie of Teague; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Oma Sue Nichols and Jennifer Parsons and husband Bobby; one brotherin-law, James Huffman all of Teague; numerous other relatives and many friends.
Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Nichols; his parents, John Fred and Mary Ellen Bass Nichols; four sisters, Shirley Nichols, Jean Tisdale, Linda Huffman, and Mary Louise Clark.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Teague Nursing Home staff, Virginia’s Hospice, Dr. White and Dr. Orms for their dedicated care of Mr. Nichols.
