JOE MAX WILSON SR.

Joe Max Wilson, Sr. of Teague, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, at the Freestone Medical Center in Fairfield, at the age of 86.

Public visitation without the family present will be Friday, Feb. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m at Bowers Funeral Home. A graveside service to celebrate his life is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. at Union Cemetery, Freestone, with Brother Scott Matthews of First Baptist Church, Teague, officiating.

Joe Max was born in Jewett, in 1934, to Lillie Lee Wilson.

His younger years were spent in Jewett and then later he moved to Teague.

He graduated from Teague High School in 1952. He attended Navarro Junior College, Corsicana, for two years.

Joe Max and Louise were married in 1954. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary May 31, 2020.

Joe Max was always a very hard-working man.

To provide for his family while building seniority on the railroad, he drove the bus for Navarro Junior College, drove a truck for Teague Brick and Tile, and delivered milk from door to door.

He worked for the railroad for 33 years.

He dedicated his last working years to his true passion as Greens Superintendent at the country club.

Joe Max loved God and loved his church family and friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Teague.

Joe Max found great pleasure in golfing, gardening and was an avid fan of the Rangers, Cowboys, Mavs, and Baylor Bears.

He especially loved anytime he was able to spend with his family and grandkids.

Joe Max is survived by his wife, Louise Suttle Wilson, along with his children, Joe Max Wilson, Jr. and wife Beth of Orange, Jan Burger and husband Mark of Carrollton, and Jill Stallings and husband Rodney of Carrollton.

He was “Granpa” to Sarah McKeel and husband Joey, Katie Folwell and husband Reed, Jacob Wilson and wife Klacie, Cameron Burger and wife Shelby, Hayden Burger, Hannah Hendricks and husband Heath, Lucas Stallings and wife Danielle, and Shelby Boles and husband Brett.

His great grandchildren are Gabriel Folwell, Boston Burger and Hawkins Hendricks.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Lee Wilson, and brother, Billy Charles Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the First Baptist Church of Teague, “The Building Fund”.
