Joe Dwain Hancock went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, in Tyler. He was 90 years old.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1934, to Joe Bailey and Adele Hancock. He graduated from Jewett High School in 1952.
He married Peggy Jane Ferguson on Feb. 22, 1957, at Little Flock Baptist Church in Jewett. Together they raised two boys, J.D. and Mark Hancock.
They were married for 67 years. They moved to San Antonio while he was serving in the United States Air Force.
They later moved to Teague when he was offered a position for the railroad. He worked for the railroad for 36 years and retired in 1996.
He then made his home at Lake Limestone and finally returned back home to Teague. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Teague.
Joe was an avid fisherman. Many memories going on the First Baptist Men’s annual fishing trip.
He could tell you the best place to catch a crappie. His favorite thing was catching monster catfish.
The biggest one he ever caught was 84 pounds. He loved to spend time with his family and did most of the time at the lake.
He was proud of his lake house and took pride into helping build it. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids and he loved being with them at the lake.
He was an active member of his church family and his sunday school class.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hancock; one son, J.D. Hancock and wife Felicia; sister, Mary Kennedy; grandchildren, Amber Black and husband Brandon, Justin Hancock and wife DeAndra, Jordan Hancock and wife Angela, Anna Posey and husband Jeremy and Sherry Hancock; great-grandchildren, Blaine, Adalyn, Jaxton, Anniston, Kynzlie, Brycen, Asher, Garret, and Nolan; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Bailey and Adele Hancock; son, Mark Hancock; and sister, Wilma Delrio.
He will forever be in our hearts.
We all loved his stories and silly teasing.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 791, Teague, Texas 75860.
