The Angelic Hosts came for Jocie Ruth Means Burrell at early dawn on Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 at her residence in Teague among loving family and devoted friends. Viewing will be held Friday, May 18, from 1–7 p.m. at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be present from 6-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, at 11 a.m. in the Antioch/Asia Primitive Baptist Church, 415 West Washington Street, in Teague led by the Reverend Lonnie Pelton, Pastor. The body will lie in repose at the church from 10 a.m. until the service begins at 11 a.m. Burrell was the last of 11 children born to Leroy and Nancy Brown Means in Limestone County. She grew up in the Grove Island Community of Teague and received her Christian education in the Union Primitive Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Elder C. C. Collins. She was a graduate of Furney Richardson High School in Teague and was member of the Furnery Richardson Lion’s girls’ basketball team. Josie and James E. Burrell were married on Oct. 9, 1956 in Groesbeck, by Justice of the Peace John Kidd. She was employed at Teague General Hospital, Teague, in Ob-Gyn Nursing Service, and retired from the McGee Nursing Home in Teague. She was a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer, the adult choir and the usher board. Josie’s favorite hobby was gardening and raising animals. She will be remembered most for caring and helping others, her out-spoken nature, her beautiful singing voice, being a hard-worker, her unconditional love, her guidance, and most of all her dependability. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James E. Burrell, Teague; her daughter, Delois Bedford and husband, Frederick, Teague; sons: Bobby Burrell, Teague; Alvin Burrell, Teague; Roy Wayne Burrell and wife, Evelyn, Hewitt; grandchildren Maxel Antwond Anthony; Sharon Anthony Standmire (Willie); DeShanuda Love; LaTarsha Burrell; Jocie Vivienne Burrell; Brian Busby; Shameka Lemon(Matt); Whitney Burrell; Roy Burrell Jr.; Estrella Michelle Burrell; 24 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Carrie Mae Means; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Burrell was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Will Means, L. M. Means, Joshuah Means, Namon Means, Earl Means, Margie Means Wilson, and three infants.
