Joanne Wren

Funeral services for Joanne Wren were held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Teague.

Bro. Scott Matthews officiated.

Interment followed the services at Union Cemetery.

Visitation was held prior to the service on Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

There was no visitation at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wren passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco.

Joanne Wren was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 7, 1930, to Gladys and Roland Raus.

She went to school in Charleston, West Virginia; Galveston; and Oakridge, Tennessee.

After graduating from Ball High School in Galveston, she attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree.

In September 1950, she married Glendell Wren and moved to Wortham where she taught school for 31 years.

During this time, she received her Master’s degree in Education from Baylor University.

Jo and Glen Wren shared more than 55 years of marriage together before being separated by his death in 2006.

Mrs. Wren was active in several ministries W ren at First Baptist Church over many years including choir, teaching Sunday school, serving food, and serving on numerous church committees.

She was an amateur artist and active in the Freestone Co. Art League.

Jo was also a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Wortham and a past active member of Campers on Missions.

She enjoyed being able to travel and go camping throughout the United States and Canada.

She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Frost and husband Johnny of Cypress; one son, W. David Wren and wife Kelly of Riesel; four grandchildren, Jared Frost and wife Sara, Justin Frost and wife Lori, Jessica Dearing and husband Erik, Payton Wren and wife Brianna; nine great-grandchildren, Casey Frost, Claire Lamar, William Lamar, Parker Frost, Paige Frost, Jake Dearing, Ryan Dearing, Rowdy Wren, and Ace Wren; one sister, Marilyn Williams of Baytown; one brother, Jack Raus and wife Lynn of Houston; her sister-inlaw, Pat Wren of Teague; numerous other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Wren was preceded in death by her husband, Glen D. Wren.
