Jerry Morris

Funeral services for Jerry Morris were held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Teague.

Bro. Scott Matthews officiated. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Dedicated husband, daddy and “Papa”, Jerry Wayne Morris passed away Wednesday morning June 7, 2023. He was born in Antlers, Oklahoma to Lester Lewis Morris and Ailene Bonham Morris Aug. 9, 1936.

He had two brothers, Jack Lewis and Perry Eugene Morris. After graduating from Farmersville High School, he attended the University of North Texas in Denton, receiving a B.S. degree and a Master’s degree in Education.

He taught and coached at Teague ISD for more than 50 years, influencing countless students and athletes. He was a charter member of the QB Club.

Known as the “Voice of the Lions,” he announced the Friday night football games and track meets. He loved sports and was an avid golfer.

He met the love of his life Janet Seely in Teague, and they were married on Aug. 26, 1961, at First Baptist Church where he directed the music for countless adult and youth choirs. His love of music began as a young boy traveling and performing with the Texas Boys Choir.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Perry, his niece Cindy Morris, his sisters-inlaw Jean Morris and Linda Allison.

Jerry and Janet had three children, Stacy Renee Wommack and husband TJ, Jerianne Terry and husband M orris Mike, and Andrew Lester Morris and wife Paula; grandchildren Andrew Curtis Pool and wife Amy, Wesley Blake Pool and wife Leslie, Richard Lucas Pool, Janet Elizabeth Daniel and husband Cooper, Mark Stewart Rogers II and wife Carly, Jessica Ailene Langham and husband Zach, Shanna Raeanne Contu and partner CJ Davis, Alexis Heaven-Contu Terry, Andrew Wayne Morris, Avery Kay Morris, Michael Kyle Terry, Jason Lee Terry and wife Berkley; great grandchildren Adalynn Pool, Gracelynn Pool, Ian Dawson, Cassandra Dawson, Weston Osborne, Bryndle Daniel, Rainey Daniel, Camryn Rogers, Maisyn Rogers, Ezra Wayne “Wilbur” Langham, Cory Davis, Demianne Davis, Kylynne Terry, Waylon Terry, Karsyn Terry and Hollyn Terry.

Jerry is also survived by his brother Jack, sister-inlaw Verna Lee, sister-in-law Elaine and husband Bennie, brother-in-law Bill Allison and wife Sue and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as all his golfing buddies and friends.
