Jeannie Bowers

Graveside services for Elizabeth E. Pollock Bowers, known by most as Jeannie, were held on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, from 1-4 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Mrs. Bowers passed away Feb. 7, 2024 at the age of 99. She lived a long, wonderful and very eventful life.

Jeannie was born Sept 15, 1924, to Jesse and William (Bill) Pollock in Cleburne. When Jeannie was a young child, her family moved to Teague where she grew up and graduated from the old Teague High School.

While attending high school, Jeannie met her future husband, Edgar M. Bowers, Jr. Jeannie and Edgar married during WWII, immediately after Edgar graduated from the US Navy Officer Candidate School.

Jeannie followed Edgar from coast to coast as he was stationed at various naval bases throughout the country. Many colorful stories were told about those times, an exciting adventure for a young woman from a small Texas town.

Jeannie returned to Teague for the birth of their first child, Martha Jean (Marty), but soon returned to the life of a traveling military wife. Following the war, her young family united and a second daughter, Barbara Ann (Hootie), was born.

Jeannie was destined to be a traveling wife, as Edgar’s career with the new Social Security Administration B owers took their family to many towns and cities throughout Texas and Louisiana. Upon retirement, Jeannie and Edgar returned to the Teague area and their little farm near Dew.

They often remarked that their years at the farm were the happiest times of their lives. Jeannie’s garden could have fed half the county!

Later they returned to Teague, where they lived out the rest of their lives happily and in peace.

Jeannie was predeceased by her parents and a sister who died as a child. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of 75 years, Edgar.

Jeannie is survived by her two daughters, Marty Walker and Hootie Hawkins; two granddaughters, Sutton Walker Aldrich and Sarah Hawkins; and one great granddaughter, Makenzie Aldrich. She is also survived by many much-loved nieces and nephews, grand and greatgrand nieces and nephews and most recently a greatgreat- grand niece.
