James W. (Jim) Kellum, 84, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 at his residence. A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 22 at Round Prairie Baptist Church with Bro. Ed Ridge officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Logsdon, Kiel Casey, Will Parker, Jonathon McAdams, Sam McAdams, Jody Bonner, Tim Cooper and John David Nicholson. Jim was born May 26, 1934 in Alto, Cherokee County, to parents Otis O. and Hattie Spurger Kellum. He was retired from the Texas Dept. of Public Safety and served the City of Fairfield both as City Judge and later Chief of Police. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Wilson Sept. 12, 1955 in Ore City. Jim and Betty moved to Fairfield in 1963 when Jim was transferred with the Texas Dept. of Public Safety. He was a long-time member of Round Prairie Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jan. 31, 2018, three brothers and four sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Janie Parker of Fairfield; Linda Johnson and husband Jerry of Arlington; Mary Gilbreath of Fairfield; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
