Funeral services for James V. McAlpine were held 10 a.m., Thursday, May 17, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Brother Carl Clark officiated and interment followed the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. Visitation with the family present was Wednesday, May 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home. McAlpine passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018, surrounded by family at Medical City in Dallas. James was born on Oct. 26, 1950, in Teague, to Verdell and Helen McAlpine. He served in the U.S. Army 1968-1970 fulfilling two tours to Vietnam and he remained in the Army Reserves until 1974. James married Rita Edwards on June 4, 1971. He was employed by Texas Department of Criminal Justice for over 30 years. McAlpine loved hunting, fishing and camping with his kids. His grandkids were his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rita McAlpine of Teague; three daughters, Tonya Pickens and husband Clint of Freestone, Angela Ielati and husband Angelo of Teague, and Ashley Kiser Fish and husband Jeremy of Teague; three sons, Glynn McAlpine and wife Stella of Jacksboro, Charles McAlpine and wife Crystal of Fairfield, and Daniel Busby of Teague; three brothers, Travis McAlpine of Teague, Lynn McAlpine of Teague, Glynn McAlpine, Sr. and wife Maureen of Lansing, Mich.; seventeen grandchildren, James McLelland and wife Kelci, Coby McLelland and Kenedy, Dylan Pickens, Cade Pickens, Samuel Ielati, Traven Ielati, Paxton Ielati, Hannah Fish, Jason Kiser, Jade Kiser, J. T. Kiser, Allen Sandoval, Ciara McAlpine, Triston McAlpine, Khloe McAlpine, Maci McAlpine, and Josh McAlpine; two brothers-in-law, Steve Edwards and David Graham both of Teague; one sisterin- law, Dianne McAlpine of Teague; mother-in-law, Betty Ruth Edwards of Teague; bonus children, Tonya and Joey Harris, Braxton and Baileigh Harris. McAlpine was preceded in death by his parents, Verdell and Helen McAlpine; two sisters, Janie Graham and Kimberly McAlpine; one brother, Bob McAlpine, father-in-law, Samy Edwards; sister-in-law, Sammy Ruth Edwards.
