Herbert Shaw

Herbert James Shaw was born in Dover, Ohio, on Jan. 26, 1955, to James and Patricia Shaw. He went to his eternal resting home on June 2, 2023, he was surrounded by his loving family during his last days on earth.

Herbie, as he was known to his family and friends, grew up in Dover, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; Venezuela, South America and Florence, South Carolina. He went to work for Nucor Steel Mill after his high school graduation.

He met the love of his life, Susian, in 1975 and moved to Texas to marry her on April 25, 1976. They went on to have four children, Misty, Jay, Wendy and Jim.

They were married for 47 years. His family meant everything to him and he worked hard for them over the next 47 years.

He and Susian had 14 grandchildren … Madison, Haley, Savannah, Jayden, Braeden, Avery, Austin, Carlson, Karley, Juniper, JC, Sunshine, Jocelyn and Parker Jo; and he was blessed with one great grandchild, Bexley Anne, who was a great helper in taking care of him.

He worked for Nucor Steel Mill in Nebraska and Jewett, but the career he loved the most was the one he forged and worked for more than 25 years. He was a Marine Technician for the oil and gas industry.

He traveled the world and just about every third world country that had oil or gas in it. He loved to travel and tell the stories of his work in exotic places.

Once he retired seven years ago he enjoyed gardening in his yard, feeding the hummingbirds, driving all over Texas to watch his grandkids play sports and helping our mom run her snow cone business. You could always find him sitting by her stand on a bucket talking to everyone, he never met a stranger or forgot a face.

He loved the Rolling Stones and went to numerous concerts through the years, first with just Susian, then with the four kids, then adding grandchildren into the concert crowds. He loved to text everyone, everyday and he would call just to talk and those talks were long.

He called his favorite days, his best days and there were many best days in his 68 years.

Herbie is joined in heaven by his sister Joette Shaw, father James E. Shaw, mother Pat Shaw, son-in-law James Light and a host of other relatives who are loved and missed.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susian Shaw; daughter Misty Light (Madison, Savannah, Austin); son Jay Shaw and wife Emily (Juniper, JC, Sunshine, Jocelyn); daughter Wendy Ross and husband Richard (Haley (Bexley), Jayden, Carlson, Karley); son Jim Shaw and wife Beth (Braeden, Avery, Parker Jolene); brother Jimmy Shaw and family; sister Judy Kale and family; sister Jody Nealy and family; and a host of friends he thought of as family and loved like his own.

The family would like to thank Allumine Hospice for their compassionate care during this difficult time.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Normangee Methodist Church at 11 a.m. The family would love to see you in Rolling Stones attire if possible.

There will be no visitation or burial.
