Kids in the Teague community called Helen, “Ahji.” Days before she passed away, she shared her wish to feed the kids in the park one more time.

Helen “Ahji” Vassar Sullivan of Teague went to her heavenly home on Feb. 26, 2023, at the age of 77. She was born in Bowie on Nov. 21, 1945.

Helen was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, India, and her community. She was known to always have an interesting story to tell and enjoyed sharing them with all.

Ahji spent her life in India, Virginia, and Texas where she lead many to the Lord. On her birthday in 1965, she met her husband, Robert, in Abilene.

On April 21, 1967, the two were married in Montana and moved to Texas.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; Rev. Ted and Rev. Estelle Vassar, brothers; Bobby Jo and Ted Vassar; and daughter; Gina Sullivan Neusch.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, Robert E. Sullivan of Teague; one son, Eddie Sullivan and wife, Kim S ullivan of Socorro, New Mexico; one daughter, Missy Newhouse and husband, Butch of Mexia,; one son-in-law, Michael Neusch of Canton; one sister, Dr. Ruth Burgess and husband of Stafford, Missouri; five grandchildren, John Sullivan, Emily Sullivan, Erin Neusch Bendiksen, Ian Sullivan, and Madison Newhouse; two great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Eleanor Bendiksen; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She also is survived by her dachshund, Sissy, that snuggled with her to the end.

Helen had a passion for life and continuously cared for everyone around her. We will all miss her laughter and smiles, singing, generosity and great deeds she continuously did.

It was her wish that memorial tributes to be made in form of charitable donations go to Peace International Foundation, P.O. Box 37, Teague, Texas 75860 or by PayPal, pifoundation@yahoo.com.
