GOLDIE SUE FAILS

A memorial service for Mrs. Goldie Sue Fails will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at 3 p.m. at Union Cemetery near Freestone. After the services family and friends are invited to stay for a potluck fellowship.

Mrs. Fails passed away quietly in her sleep at her home in Donie, Texas on Sept. 18. While she had been fighting kidney failure for years, this was not the cause of her passing and she had been doing quite well with dialysis. She was 73 years old.

Goldie was born on March 12, 1947 in Parsons, Kansas to parents Wallace Leonard Pierson and Anna Mae Studdard. She married her soul mate Billie Fred Fails Dec. 11, 1971 in Pasadena, Texas. The family moved to Donie just outside of Teague, Texas in the summer of 1978.

Goldie, Susie, Aunt Sue, Mamma and Grandma were the titles she proudly received from those who loved her. She would say regularly that she loved “kids, cats & dogs” and everyone was welcome at her house. There are many kids, cats and dogs that owe their safe, healthy and happy upbringing to her open heart and open arms. Her kindness and caring were abundant along with her sense of humor! Her home was filled with love and laughter.

She loved to read and sing along to her favorite songs. She would jump at the chance to road trip to the casinos or visit family out of state. She took pleasure in the little things like a nice meal out or slow walk through the junk shop.

Goldie wouldn’t hesitate to help a stranger if she was able and that stranger would become a friend. If you knew her, you loved her. And if she loved you, she made sure you knew it.

She is survived by her children, Leonard Eugene Lanier of Orange, Jewelya Rebuck of Donie, Mitzie Prince and her husband Darrell of Tomball, youngest son William V. Fails of Donie and siblings, CJ Pierson, Betty Morrison and June Viets; her grandchildren, Jennifer Lozano, Stephanie Lanier, Tanya Lanier, Jami Gonzalez, Wallace Lanier, Virginia Lanier, Nina Lanier, Timothy Lanier, Hannah Lanier, Makayla Lanier, George Lanier and Ethan Prince. She has numerous great-grandchildren and many people who considered her their mom, grandma, aunt and friend. It is impossible to list them all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Anna Mae; her husband, Billie Fails; her son, Portor Lanier; daughter-in-law Rose; son-in-law, John; and ex-husband, Eugene Lanier.

Flowers may be sent to Bowers Funeral Home in Teague or delivered to Union Cemetery Chapel in Freestone.
