Gladys Underwood

Funeral services for Gladys Underwood were held on Sunday, Nove. 26, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church in Dew. Bro. Carl Clark officiated. Interment followed the services at Parker Cemetery in Flo.

Gladys Gressett Pate Underwood passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at the age of 92.

Gladys was born on Sept. 29, 1931, in Snook, to Emanuel and Ivy Franklin Gressett.

She later settled in Flo, where she met Coleman (Ham) Pate and the couple married in 1946.

Gladys was blessed with five children. Roger Dee Pate, Arvin Lee Pate and wife Rebecca, Jacqueline Pate Hansel and husband Jack, Vernon Powell Pate and wife Brenda, and Billy Wayne Pate and wife Brooklyn.

Gladys raised her children in the Assembly of God Church in Buffalo.

Recently she had been attending Corinth Baptist Church in Dew.

Gladys worked at the Buffalo Hospital in the 1960’s as a nurse’s aide.

She later moved to Dallas and started her working career at Southwest Airmotive, Love Field.

Southwest Airmotive had several names through the years, Grenwich, Cooper, Ryder, Aviall, and G.E. Services.

She was an airplane mechanic and retired in 2001 after 29 years of service.

Gladys had a passion for country music and loved to sing.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends through the years at Paula Sue’s Restaurant and Peggy’s Restaurant in Dallas.

Gladys was a sixth generation grandmother with 12 grandchildren, Michael Grigsby and wife Amber of Buffalo, Brandee Padgett and husband Jay of Waxahachie, Kayla Tucker and husband Chris of Teague, Tina Pate of College Station, Pamela Pate of Carthage, Kelli Ratka and husband Frank of Brenham, Jamie White and husband Robert of Angleton, Sean Jones of Deer Park, Tammy Stone and husband Danny of St. Louis, MO, Sherry Hansel of China Spring, Bobbie Jo Collins and husband Jeremie of Satellite Beach, Fl, and Tony Hansel of Crestview, Fl; 26 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgreat- grandson.

Gladys was also blessed with many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Gladys had a heart of gold.

She would help anyone in need even when she only had little.

Gladys was a straight forward person.

She was always saying what was on her mind, even if it hurt your feelings, but she said it with love because she cared.

She showed up and showed out for all her family.

Even to end up in a ditch, listening to country music, waiting to be rescued. She loved all the holidays and welcomed everyone with open arms.

Gladys was the baby girl of her family.

She was preceded in death by all her siblings, Lloyd Gressett, Florence Moreau, Olevia Lanningham, Pauline Holland, Jack Gressett, and Roland Gressett. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Roger and Arvin Pate; her husband, Larry Underwood; one great-great-granddaughter, Sophia Pate; and one daughter-in-law, Brooklyn Pate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 121 FM 489, Teague, TX 75860.
