GARY GENE STEPHENSON

Gary Gene Stephenson, 86, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Skinner officiating. Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don McLeod, Larry Davis, Elton Moore, Mark Chavers, Gene Chavers and Barry Capps. Honorary bearers are Bill Minchew and Calvary Baptist Deacons including Clois Mullen, Curtis Red, Tommy Miller, Jerry Shepard, Wesley Keeney, Dennis Lane, Daniel Phillips, Michael Wren, Joe Wren, Marvin Mullen and George Patterson; Soldiers of Christ Sunday School class, including Clint Seale, Lindale Phillips, Clayton Winkler, Boyd Jackson, Billy Patterson, Johnnie Green, Jack Withers, Charles Easterwood, Keith Whitaker, Phillip Ivy and Sue Little

Gary was born July 29, 1935, in Wichita Falls to parents William Arden and Della Reed Stephenson. He was raised and attended school in Teague. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Pharmacy in 1957 then moved to Fairfield and worked at Gilpin Drug which he later purchased and it became Town Drug.

In 1972 he and Warren Awalt, owner of Awalt Drug, joined their businesses to become Awalt-Stephenson Drug. The two were partners until 2002 when they sold the business. During retirement he enjoyed his family, pasture and cattle. He was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie; three sisters, Estelle Cagle, Beatrice Bulin and Doris Woods.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 67 years, Mary; a daughter, Lisa Foree and husband Grady; a grandson, Brady James; sister-in-law Virginia and Clifford Smith; nephews, Wesley Smith (Brandi), Brad Smith (Michelle), Jason Smith (Robin); a niece, Doris Gene Ricketts; great-nephews and great-nieces, Cordelle Smith, Cantrelle Smith, Cole Smith, Morgan Smith, Brittany Malone (Cameron), Brooke Beasely, Jayme Persons (Curtis), Miller Smith, Jaysa Smith, Thomas Ricketts Kenneth Ricketts.
