Earl E. Gilbert, Sr.
Funeral services for Earl Gilbert, Sr., 81, was held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 2:00p.m. at First Baptist Church in Teague Bro. Scott Matthews officiated. Interment followed the services at Cotton Gin Cemetery. Visitation was held on Wednesday with the family present from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Gilbert passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Teague Nursing Home. He was born in Van, Texas, on September 29, 1935. Earl married Barbara Goode on August 21, 1954, and shared over fifty-five years of marriage together before being separated by her death on December 21, 2009. Mr. Gilbert worked for APAC in Dallas for over thirty years. He moved to Teague in 1971. Mr. Gilbert enjoyed trail rides and was active for many years in a riding club. He was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Teague. For many years, Mr. Gilbert would drive the youth to summer camp in Glorieta, NM. He loved church camp and often would sponsor kids so they could attend. Mr. Gilbert loved his family and was active in their lives. He especially enjoyed following his grandchildren’s school and youth sports activities. He is survived by one son Gary E. Gilbert & wife Kathy of Monticello, Indiana; six grandchildren, Stacy Rene Gomez & husband Jesus of Teague, Earl Edward (Bubba) Gilbert, III & wife Janay of Colmesneil, Texas, Erick Dwain Gilbert & wife Kayla of Teague, Tim J. Gilbert of Monticello, Indiana, Holly E. Gilbert of Monticello, Indiana, and Abby D. Gilbert of Monticello, Indiana; fourteen great-grandchildren, Kristi James, Jacob Gomez, Bethany Gilbert, Emilee James, Earl Edward (Ty) Gilbert, III, Hayley Gomez, Harley Gomez, Kaitlyn Gilbert, Evan Gilbert, Eli Gilbert, Mitch Gilbert, Emma Gilbert, Clark Gilbert, Easton Gilbert; one brother Dr. Harold Dean Gilbert and wife Linda of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter-in-law Delores Gilbert of Teague; one niece, Kara Gilbert McIntyre and husband Peter. Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ray; one son, Earl “Eddie” Gilbert, Jr.; his parents, Mearl & Carneene Gilbert; one niece Dr. Glenda Gilbert.
