Donald Hendon
Donald Ralph Hendon, 71, of Longview, died on Feb. 13, 2024, at his home on Lake Cherokee.
Don was born on Dec. 6, 1942, to George Boyd Hendon, Jr. and Mary Catherine (Lee) Hendon in Teague.
He graduated from Teague High School in 1961.
Don was named Mr. Teague High School in 1961 and excelled in many sports in high school.
He graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1964 with an accounting degree and was a CPA in Dallas and Longview for many years before he retired a few years ago.
Don loved the outdoors and spent most of his days admiring nature on his deck at Lake Cherokee.
He also loved spending time at his ranch in Throckmorton County admiring his many exotic animals and nature.
Don was a loyal member of AMBUCS for many years and urged all of his friends to look into its mission to create mobility and independence for people with disabilities as well as performing valuable civic service and improving communities.
Don was also an avid poker player and loved the game.
Don was preceded in death by his parents George Boyd Hendon, Jr. and Mary Catherine (Lee) Hendon. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Cooper Hendon; sons Bradley Christopher Hendon and wife Charlotte of Longview, and Blake Christian Hendon and wife Marla of Austin; brothers William Michael (Mickey) Hendon and wife Glenda of Waxahachie, George Boyd Hendon III and wife Martha of Murphy, and Jimmie Lee Hendon of Mexia; grandchildren Zane Hendon of Longview, Chloe Cranmer Hendon and husband Brad of Baton Rouge, Joshua and Fen Hendon of College Station, and Gracelyn Camp; and great-grandchildren Emmie Elizabeth Cranmer and Brooks Weston Cranmer of Baton Rouge.
Services for Don will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at The Church at Lake Cherokee, 11968 FM 2011 East, Henderson, TX 75652.
Don donated his body to science.
